(Asynchronous transfer Mode)--A connection type transmission mode carrying information organized into locks (header plus information field); it is asynchronous in the sense that recurrence of blocks depends on the required or instantaneous bit rate. Statistical and deterministic values have been proposed that correspond respectively to the packet and circuit values defined for information transfer mode.
